Exploring Photo Reticle’s Rotary Encoder Wheel Material Options

Mylar, soda-lime glass, and aluminum are the foundational materials we use for high-precision rotary encoder wheel fabrication at Photo Reticle. These materials are selected for their corrosion resistance, high-tensile properties, and thermal stability—delivering the uncompromising precision our global customers demand.

Precision-Designed Photonic Engineering

At Photo Reticle, engineering begins with advanced CAD services to design intricate microlithographic patterns. Our fabrication capabilities include CNC diamond machining, precision scribing, and high-speed diamond sawing to shape glass, quartz, and metal substrates.

As a specialized custom shop, we solve complex optoelectronic engineering problems with cost-effective, high-performance solutions. Our craftsmen’s deep experience allows us to welcome unique challenges, from sub-millimeter medical discs to large-scale industrial encoder wheels.

Exploring Rotary Encoder Wheel Material Options

Choosing the right substrate is critical to the performance of your motion control system. Here are the primary materials offered by Photo Reticle:

1. Glass & Quartz (High-Resolution)

Glass encoder discs offer the highest degree of precision due to their superior surface flatness.

Standard Soda-Lime: Used for high-resolution parts printed from a precision glass master.

Transmissive Mode Glass: Ideal for high-performance applications, typically utilizing soda-lime glass with low-reflective chrome patterns to minimize signal noise.

Ultra-Flat Quartz: Reserved for extreme performance requirements, such as sine wave technologies and high-thermal environments where zero expansion is critical.

2. Reflective Aluminum

Reflective aluminum is the premier choice for rotary encoder wheels operating in high-temperature or rugged industrial environments.

Durability: Capable of withstanding extreme environmental stressors that would degrade synthetic films.

Specifications: Available in diameters up to 250mm, offering a robust solution for heavy-duty actuators and motors.

3. Reflective Mylar (Polyester Film)

Mylar is a high-strength polyester film used where cost-effectiveness and durability are balanced.

Shock Absorption: Mylar’s inherent flexibility makes it excellent for applications prone to high vibration or mechanical shock.

Ease of Use: Photo Reticle’s Mylar options feature pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) for rapid, “peel-and-stick” installation. It serves as a low-cost, high-performance alternative for consumer robotics and light industrial tools.
