Eyepiece calibration
Compare a stage interval with the eyepiece divisions to establish length per division for the selected objective.
A stage micrometer places a known scale at the microscope specimen plane. It establishes specimen length per eyepiece division or per camera pixel for a particular optical configuration.

A stage micrometer is a glass scale placed at the specimen plane. Its known intervals relate image pixels or eyepiece divisions to physical length for a defined microscope configuration.
Choose it to calibrate eyepiece divisions or image-analysis pixel scale, and to repeat that check after changing the objective, camera adapter or saved image mode.
Compare a stage interval with the eyepiece divisions to establish length per division for the selected objective.
Measure a known interval in the saved image to establish length per pixel at that magnification and image mode.
| Choice | Selection basis |
|---|---|
| Scale span | Choose an observable span long enough for repeatable endpoint judgement within the usable field. |
| Division spacing | Finer divisions are useful only if adjacent marks remain separable at the chosen objective and camera sampling. |
| Reported intervals | Identify nominal dimensions, measured intervals and any uncertainty or traceability required for the result. |
The stage scale is at the specimen plane. An eyepiece reticle is inside the viewing optics and requires a calibrated conversion to specimen length.
Choose spans and interpret measurement records

A known specimen-plane scale for eyepiece and camera calibration.
Length reference for checking the microscope image scale.
Convert image distance into a physical length reference.
Length reference for microscope calibration.
Length references for microscopy measurements.
Inspect the defined mark intervals, accumulated spans, line quality and identification. A nominal division size is distinct from the measured interval and its uncertainty.
The supplied item is the selected patterned glass reference. The order identifies the measured intervals and accompanying measurement records.
Stage micrometer patterns provide known graduations at the specimen plane for converting image pixels or eyepiece divisions into length.
Calibrate in the actual objective, zoom and camera mode; record the known distance and measured interval.
Graduation interval, total scale length, numbering, substrate dimensions, contrast and calibration records.
Check the new optical configuration and record its scale. Changes in objective, zoom or camera mode can change the specimen distance represented by a division or pixel.
