Single-position analysis
One edge provides a local analysis region for repeat focus or assembly comparisons. Its size must leave sufficient pixels on both sides of the edge.
Sharp chrome edges on glass for slanted-edge spatial frequency response (SFR) and modulation transfer function (MTF) measurements.
A slanted-edge target provides a defined bright/dark boundary for software-based spatial frequency response analysis. The software reconstructs the edge profile and calculates how the recorded image transfers detail at different frequencies.
Choose it to compare focus, aperture or field position with a compatible SFR method. The reported response includes the lens, sensor and recorded image processing.

Distributed edges support centre, edge and corner comparisons with the same capture settings. Edge directions can be chosen for the required orientations.
| Choice | Selection basis |
|---|---|
| Angle and usable edge length | Use an angle supported by the software and sufficient edge length for the selected region. A small slant near an image axis is common. |
| Contrast and illumination | Match transmission or reflection contrast to the method and camera response; avoid clipped bright regions. |
| Pattern distribution | Choose local or multiple-field regions according to where the system must be evaluated. |
Chrome-on-glass edges suit compatible transmission tests. A binary chrome edge is not automatically a low-contrast reflection chart or a complete ISO test chart.

Inspect edge straightness, edge defects, angle and clear-area cleanliness. Agree how edge quality will be characterized for the measurement bandwidth.
The glass target is supplied with the selected edge layout, polarity and substrate format, with edge inspection records as specified in the order.
Slanted-edge MTF targets supply a defined light-dark boundary for software-based spatial frequency response analysis.
Record target contrast, edge angle, focus, sampling and image-processing settings with the result. The target supplies an edge; the imaging system supplies the measurement.

The curve is computed from images captured through the actual optics and analysed by the selected algorithm. Record that test configuration.
