Counting Grid Reticles

A square or nested grid divides the viewed field into sampling regions. Cell count, boundary lines and origin define the counting frame.

Configuration and materials

Specify optical glass or fused silica, overall dimensions, thickness, pattern-side orientation and the clear aperture. Define transmission, reflectance or optical density at the working wavelength when optical contrast is critical.

  • Active field, scale or feature geometry and optical-plane location
  • Material, outside dimensions, thickness and mounting datums
  • Working instrument, illumination and viewing side
  • Critical tolerances, inspection intervals and reporting needs

Reading and sampling methods

Define a repeatable counting field

Cells or particles can be counted in selected squares while the boundary rule prevents double counting. The observed field must be calibrated when the grid sits in the microscope eyepiece.

Calibrate eyepiece divisions against a stage scale

Area counting and volume concentration

A grid defines area. Liquid concentration additionally requires a known chamber depth and dilution factor; filter-based counting instead relates sampled fields to filter area and collected sample quantity.

Choose by function

What it is and what it does

A square or nested grid divides the viewed field into sampling regions. Cell count, boundary lines and origin define the counting frame.

When to choose it

Calibrate the specimen-plane cell area and set inclusion and exclusion rules for particles on boundaries. A planar grid does not define a liquid volume.

How it differs from related products

A grid divides an area, while point and line arrays support specific sampling estimators. Counting objects per field differs from estimating area fraction or liquid concentration; the sampling method defines the result.

What can be customised

Field coverage, pitch, point spacing, line orientation and labelled sectors can be configured for the counting or sampling method.

What you receive

A patterned glass reference component with the selected graduations, outline and mounting dimensions, accompanied by the specified inspection records.

Selection notes

Counting grid reticles divide the microscope field into repeated regions for cells, particles and sampling tasks.

Define cell dimensions, subdivisions and boundary rules together. Area or volume calculations require the matching calibrated field and chamber geometry.

Information for your inquiry

Pitch, subdivisions, field size, counting rules, magnification and any counting chamber.

Does the grid alone determine concentration?

The grid defines observation regions. Concentration also requires the actual area, sample depth or sampled volume and the chosen method.
